Hand Steel Drilling competition
A hand steel drilling competition is a traditional mining contest where competitors use a hammer and steel drill to bore into solid rock by hand, just as hard-rock miners once did before powered equipment. In men’s and women’s divisions, competitors are judged by how deep they can drill within a set time, combining strength, rhythm, accuracy, and grit. It is part sport, part heritage demonstration, and part proof that mining history was not for the soft-handed.
