VINTAGE BASEBALL GAMES

The Colorado Vintage Base Ball Association (CVBBA), a non-profit founded in 1993, is dedicated to preserving and educating the public about 19th-century baseball as it was played in Colorado. Through historically accurate games, costumes, and performances, the CVBBA offers a living history experience that emphasizes Victorian values, gentlemanly play, and theatrical reenactment over competition.

Players and volunteers recreate authentic teams, wear period uniforms, and follow early rules of the game. Beyond the field, a full cast of civilian roles—umpires, reporters, suffragists, and more—help bring the 1800s to life for spectators ("cranks"). The hobby is affordable and family-friendly, with local events and occasional travel.

One notable team, the Mastodon Mine Minstrels, emerged after a chance meeting in Broomfield and drew inspiration from a historic team known for combining baseball with musical performances. The Minstrels upheld that tradition, often singing during games, and evolved into a respected part of the association.

Founded by enthusiasts like Mark “Fearless” Foster and Pat “Deacon” Massingil, the CVBBA continues to grow, keeping the spirit of vintage base ball alive in Colorado."
